HYDROFORUM crosses the Polish border
While the electrochemical battery storage technology can be considered today the most widely used instrument compensating the unwanted impact of unstable renewable electricity sources on the distribution and even transmission electrical grids, one can also notice renewed understanding the strategic role of pumped storage for electrical power system regulation and safety. In this context it is enough to mention China, the world leader in battery technology which has never resigned of developing its pumped storage sector and swiftly gained the leading position in this field. However, renewed interest in pumped storage can be observed for a longer time also in Europe, including such East European countries as Ukraine which was on the best way to gain the regional leader position before the war outbreak in 2022, Lithuania which just completes upgrading the Kruonis PSPP and even Poland from where some shy signals of the political will to revive its pumped storage development programme are to be heard again. The above observations and the excellent contacts between the Polish and Lithuanian Hydropower Associations have been the main background of the multi-year desire to include the study visit to Kruonis PSPP into the programme of one of annual HYDROFORUM Polish Hydropower Conferences. Thanks to the effort of our Lithuanian friends, as well as involvement of the Ignitis Gamyba and Voith Hydro companies this desire will come true within the next 3 months.
The HYDROFORUM 2026 conference will take place on October 21–22 in “Warszawa” Hotel in Augustów and will be followed by a study tour to Kruonis PSPP in Lithuania. Augustów is one of the most renowned Polish tourist and recreation resorts. The distance to the Kruonis PSPP is 160 km which makes our study tour desire quite feasible. As in the previous years, the whole event is organised jointly by the Polish Hydropower Association (TEW), the Szewalski Institute of Fluid-Flow Machinery of the Polish Academy of Sciences (IMP PAN) and the Polish Association of Small Hydropower Development (TRMEW). All of us strongly believe that the study visit to Kruonis PSPP will be an excellent culmination of our conference debates. As always, a major part of the conference debates will consist in exchange of professional expertise and opinions in the field of design and operation of hydropower installations as well as results of research and research & development efforts. We have done all possible effort to make the conference an opportunity to spread among the delegates the information about ongoing and planned investment projects.
Further information on the event is available from our Conference Bulletin. All those interested in joining HYDROFORUM 2026 are invited to register: using this website or by sending us the completed registration form via e-mail.
